The Art Teachers
Who's in Charge Around Here?
Heather McCleaf
Heather’s teaching credentials include a year of service with Americorps/ArtsUSF where she spearheaded an after-school/summer arts program at the West Tampa Boys and Girls Club. She led a select group of young artists to paint a 30-foot mural on the wall of the club.
She taught her own summer art camp in Tampa, Florida from 2000 – 2002 and gave private art lessons to both children and adults. She also taught a popular adult drawing class in Tampa.
Her involvement in the guerilla art movement GALA CORINA (www.galacorina.org) from 1998 – 2002 helped to showcase some of the brightest emerging talent in the West Florida arts scene.
Heather studied Painting, Printmaking and Art History at the University of South Florida and spent a summer studying art in Paris, France in 1996. After graduation, she spent 3 years as a mural artist in Tampa Bay and Miami.
Winn Taylor
It is Winn’s love of creating whimsically inspired art which enables her to connect easily to the children she teaches. It is this same inspiration, which caught the attention of HGTV, who selected her as a featured artist to be included in an episode of “That’s Clever”, a show which spotlights artists and crafters from coast to coast. You can view the episode on the website by selecting the HGTV tab.
In addition to the creation of her own work, Winn has taught after school art classes through the non-profit organization, Attitudinal Healing Connection. Their Art Esteem program provides fun and widely applicable art-enrichment classes to the children of West Oakland. The curriculum also provides education in emotional literacy and life/social skills, which are valuable for kids of all backgrounds. In this program, Winn worked with the students of Hoover Elementary.
Winn has also served as a Volunteer Camp Counselor for Belladonna Fairy Camp in Berkeley as well as leading a group at West Portal Elementary through a unique art project.
She currently volunteers her time at The Children’s Hospital in Oakland, working in the Onsite School assisting patients in maintaining their studies and providing creative outlets.
Last but not least, Winn has worked as a nanny in the Bay area for over 10 years.
Winn studied art at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.
